Waldorf schools in Israel use a special type of notebooks made of recycled paper. The Beit Elisha Paper Workshop is the sole manufacturer of these notebooks in Israel, and provides about 40,000 notebooks a year to more than 20 schools throughout the country. The workshop also recycles paper and manufactures other products, such as greeting cards, notepads, and other gift items.
The paper workshop provides work for those members with artistic talents in design, drawing, and painting, or for those with mechanical skills who like to work with machines.
The workshop gives members a chance to work with soft, pliable materials, and experience repetitive, monotonous work that provides a sense of quiet and security. It also offers members such challenges as meeting deadlines and quotas. Some of the members help distribute the final paper products, and meeting with clients is an empowering experience for both sides.
